n recent years, disinformation including fake news has become a global phenomenon due to its explosive growth, particularly on social media. The viral spread of misinformation and disinformation, is a critical concern at present. Social media are used as a means to spread digital deception within local, national, and global communities which have led to a renewed focus on the means of detection and defense. Are people fooled by disinformation and spread it because they believe it is true? Do they know the information is fake but spread it anyway? How does the way disinformation is presented influence our likelihood of sharing it? And are some people more likely to share disinformation than others? In this panel discussion, you will hear from top international experts on the recent advancements in (1) user engagements in the dissemination of information disorder; (2) techniques on detecting and mitigating disinformation; and (3) trending issues such as ethics, Covid, etc.
